Litter and local environment quality
We did a lot of work through our extra-curricular club Carterhatch Young Citizens. We made the whole school community aware of the litter problem around the area. Pupils made posters and questionnaires about littering. Pupils wrote litter pledges. We provided recycling bins for the collection of paper, cardboard, foil and plastic.
Biodiversity
We planted shrubs and hanging baskets. We grew sunflowers and used seeds to make food pellets for the birds. Habitats for insects, frogs and toads, ladybirds and bees were set out all around the school site. Nesting boxes were put in every year group outdoor area. We designed and made bird feeders. We started composting our daily fruit peel and using the compost on our grounds.
