Archiving School Councils UK’s old site

Whilst School Councils UK is being wound up, we’re hosting an archive of all the materials from www.schoolcouncils.org. It’s at: involver.org.uk/SCUKarchive/www.schoolcouncils.org/ Of course doing these kinds of things without a huge amount of technical knowledge always throws up problems. So I’ve been scouring the internet to find solutions, some are easier to find than others. [...]

Greg’s off for the weekend

Hi all, So the pupil voice case studies for Specialist Schools and Academies Trust are going well, and have been the focus this week. My computer died though, which didn’t help progress, and I lost my camera, which means that this blog post will feature no photographs. Not long before the schools come back, so once [...]

Lanzarote vs. case studies

So Asher’s away in Lanzarote in 35 degree heat with the family, and I’m spending Saturday writing up good pupil voice case studies. It’s all good though, there’s a lot of very good practice out there that other schools could learn from and it’s good to be doing some concrete research on pupil voice that [...]

Making it fun: get to know your reps

Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing. Albert Schweizer, French philosopher, physician and winner of the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize (1875 – 1965) It doesn’t matter who you’re teaching, training or working with, this is true; so we’ve made it central to everything we’re trying to do with [...]

Chris Keates vs the Green Cross Code Man

Two opposing views on pupil voice (and a Government statement). Chris Keates, head of the NASUWT, is against certain extensions of pupil voice, and a progressive teacher gives his opinion on why it is essential.

It’s International Youth Day – what are you doing?

Although you wouldn’t know it from the websites of the Prime Minister or the Department for Education and Skills, today is International Youth Day. What are you doing to help young people and make their involvement sustainable?

British Library Business

Yesterday our ‘mobile office’ moved from Wood Green Library Business Lounge to the British Library: Lovely place to work – good atmosphere and lots of power points to hook up my nearly dead laptop. Roaming offices have their drawbacks though = paying for coffee. I reckon we could sneak a small kettle in next time. [...]

First post!

First post from me – hi all! Weekend activities: Asher and I spent yesterday’s amazing hot Saturday afternoon in my garden working on our business plan. Was pretty good, but I realised that not having written anything for a month and a bit, I’ve completely forgotten how to write well. Some would say I never [...]

Blogging to get things done

Greg’s coming over in a bit, so I thought it would be useful to get my thoughts down about what we need to get done. Then I thought, “and why not put them on the blog?” It puts a bit of pressure on us to actually get things done. I’d suggest this is an excellent [...]

Getting things started

So, we’re into week 2 of this involver experiment. I’m feeling a little more confident about saying what we’re going to be doing now – and about letting people know what happened to School Councils UK (SCUK). It’s now set who the team is going to be. It’s me and Greg, a great former colleague [...]
