We’re starting up a friendly, monthly five-aside game in Old Street for anyone working in the youth and citizenship fields:
bit of fun, bit of sweat, bit of networking

News/Blog
Aisha Forbes, a good friend of involver, is involved with Youth Producing Change this year.
It’s an innovative program of youth-produced short films from across the globe showcasing young people’s perspectives on human rights crises. Ten films will be shown from teen film makers from London, Mozambique and New York, and they will be present [...]
Big week for us last week – the Speaker’s School Council Awards was launched. This is the project that Parliament asked Asher and I to help with. The event was a real success, and the young people from Brecknock Primary School and Little Heath Secondary presented their projects brilliantly. It was also great to hear [...]
This week we’ve moved in with Changemakers, an exciting and well-established charity who are based just up the road from our old office. They aim to create a world in which young people have the confidence to lead and everyone understands we need them to.
We’ve had several meetings with their Chief Exec Adam Nichols over [...]
Schools: don’t block blogs
Feb 14
By blocking blogs and other types of websites en bloc, schools miss a vital opportunity to educate on safe use of the web. Here’s another approach.
Little Heath School in Reading is a school that we’ve worked with for a while now. We were really pleased to be invited to their annual student voice conference a few weeks back.
Little Heath is a great example of the benefits that can be gained when young people are given trust and responsibility to influence [...]
Our week with http://www.cedu.cz has got off to a great start with input from @citizenship @participationworks London Met and now Sem Simkins #
I'm on my way home though before they get to meet the Tower Hamlets Young Mayors unfortunately as my daughter's got a temperature. #
Greg & Kamila are at a secondary school's #studentvoice event [...]
Interesting discussion with @DaleRockell and Philip Stanley about how we could collaborate on personal and social development in schools. #
Reading the TES forums is scary. I really hope the blinkered, child-fearing/hating views are just people letting off steam. #
Nice compliment for our website: http://bit.ly/6Xv2yH – how we've managed to build a useful site with WordPress [...]
Asher and I had a interesting meeting with Ade Sofola of the Citizenship Foundation yesterday.
She leads on an interesting project at the Foundation – Youth Act, which supports groups of 11–18 year-olds to identify issues of concern to them and their communities and to develop campaigns to tackle them.
In terms of skills, this has a [...]
Morning all,
What better way to kick off a cold January week, than to read our response to the Cabinet Office’s call for evidence on Personalisation and learning. We really do treat you don’t we?
That said, there is exciting elements of this which hint at the direction that involver is beginning to take. This has been on our minds [...]
.@joehallforluton Good job, but what's really important to find out is how they're empowering the children NOT on the school council. #
@luke_cb the participation you want has to have value to the participant in itself. No additional rewards, make the opportunity rewarding. in reply to luke_cb #
@JoeHallforLuton Good methods of communication are key, alongside structures [...]
A few pointers on how to get the most of of your school council for teaching citizenship and improving relationships in your school.
Just been looking around at free/cheap small business CRM, not sure if we really need it, http://civicrm.org/ looks interesting though #

Hi all,
Happy new year – hope everyone had a great festive season! I lost every snowball fight, got lots of new socks, fell over twice, and am excited about 2010.
Sorry for not blogging much recently! But here’s a wee update:
We’ve moved into our new office in Old Street – this is really helping us to [...]

Locked out of the new office already, and it's only the second day! I thought working from home was unproductive. #
Just bought @scyne a spill resistant keyboard. About a minute outside the shop I spilt coffee on [...]
I just read this really interesting article on how schools in Colorado are finding that in the quest to raise standards and achievement that data alone is a blunt tool; student voice sharpens this.
Their recommendations are excellent, especially:
Utilize student-led outreach to capture feedback from disengaged students.
Have a read: http://blog.ednewscolorado.org/2010/01/05/in-r2t-student-voice-will-sharpen-blunt-instruments/
@jonathan_mackin Better or worse than the book? Not made my mind up about it yet. #triffids in reply to jonathan_mackin #
Was supposed to be at Villa with @grahamallcott and @chloedoherty but ended up spending 3 hrs on hard shoulder of the M6. Good company tho. #
