Lovely new animations produced by Parliament

Two great new animations have been launched by Parliament’s Education Service.

They’re useful if you’re in secondary school and studying Citizenship, Government and Politics or other courses.

The first one is about the House of Commons – take a look at this here, and another one about an introduction to Parliament here.

Asher’s trip to Pakistan with the British Council

Earlier in the year, Asher travelled to Lahore in Pakistan to talk to teachers and students there about what makes a school council smart. It was an event organised by the British Council and the Citizenship Foundation as part of the Connecting Classrooms initiative focusing on how citizenship education can be improved. This conference concentrated on how school councils (known as student councils in Pakistan) could be used as a vehicle for citizenship education.

Read all about his trip on the Smart School Councils Community site here.

Engaging young people on Peabody estates

We’re lucky enough to be working on Peabody on a number of projects. These projects help to apply some of the principles we think are important in different settings.

For example, we’ve helped to develop the  Our Say Our Way toolkit to help social landlords work with young people in a more effective way.

We’re currently to evaluate the Men’s Shed project and developing a Young Leaders framework.

Smart School Councils Community

One of our main projects is challenging school councils to be better. We can use lots of long words to describe this, but essentially it’s about challenging and supporting schools to make their school councils get more things done, and include more young people.

We support schools through resources, training and support. All of this can be accessed through www.smartschoolcouncils.org.uk. Take a look!

Model Westminster event

We’ve been hearing good things about Model Wesminster recently, so I’m excited to check out their event next week. It’s all about seeking young people’s views on the National Minimum wage. If you’re interested and can get to London next Tuesday the 26th August, then  sign up here.

Time for a new look

involver has been running for 5 years now, in which time we’ve worked with fantastic organisations in the UK and overseas as well as hundreds of schools.

We thought it was time for a refresh of our image and website. Partly this reflects a change in how we are working and what we’re working on, but we’ll explain that in more detail soon (once we’re clearer about it ourselves).

What do you think of the new look?

Let us know if there’s anything you have trouble finding anything on the site.
