School Councils and New Technology

So, I just got back from the BETT (British Education and Training Technology) Exhibition. It was crazy with 1000’s of exhibitors and 10,000’s of visitors. It was impossible to see everything, but I did chat to some interesting people with fascinating products. Everyone was ‘welcoming me to the future’ and telling me to ‘Make IT better’.

5 Year Vision

Jess and I had a meeting with Esmée Fairbairn this morning and they grilled us about our vision, i.e. where do we want to be in 5 years time? Whilst we have strategies and an overall vision for school councils, we need to have an organisational vision and interim points of reference.

£1 Billion extra funding for schools, where's it going?

The government has allocated another £1 billion to children, schools and families over the next three years.

While the plan does not have direct impact on the rest of the UK it is likely that it will lead to pressure for action in similar areas in Wales, Scotland and N Ireland – not least in its approach that states that the school should be the centre of the community

It is a huge package of measures, and difficult to make overall sense of. But Tony Attwood from Hamilton House has done his best.

Nothing explicitly mentions school councils, but I’ve italicized sections that I think we could have a particular input into – Asher

Junior 8 – win a chance to represent the UK at J8 2008

From NCB
Junior 8 is an opportunity for pupils in your school to deepen their understanding of world issues, share their views on issues affecting children and represent the UK on the world stage. Teams will compete nationally for the opportunity to represent the UK at the Junior 8 Summit in Japan in July 2008.
Groups of four students aged 13-17 can enter as a ‘team’.
Teams put together an entry covering topics such as health, poverty, development and climate change.
The winning team of four will join teams from each of the G8 countries and young people representing each region of the world for the J8 world Summit in Japan between 2-10 July 2008.
Go to http://www.unicef.org.uk/youthvoice/junior8.asp to find out more about the competition and how you can be involved. The website will be updated in early January to include further details and terms and conditions for the UK.
